The AI hardware accelerators from Axelera® AI and the rugged embedded computers from Syslogic complement each other perfectly. On the occasion of the Embedded World trade fair in Nuremberg, Axelera and Syslogic are announcing a strategic partnership.
The fast-growing Dutch chipmaker Axelera AI develops AI accelerators specifically designed for inference applications. Syslogic, in turn, specializes in rugged edge computers used in environments with particularly demanding operating conditions. The strategic partnership between the two companies opens up new opportunities across a wide range of industries.
Axelera is attracting international attention with its Metis® AI Processing Unit (AIPU). The Metis AIPU is based on a proprietary digital in-memory computing architecture. This enables an excellent performance-per-watt ratio while avoiding the typical memory bottlenecks of conventional architectures.
By integrating Axelera AI’s Metis M.2 modules into its embedded systems, Syslogic is expanding its portfolio of high-performance AI platforms. For the first time, AI-enabled embedded systems based on x86 architecture will be available, providing customers with additional flexibility when developing AI applications.
Benjamin Gassler, Product Manager at Syslogic, says: “Axelera AI’s in-memory computing architecture sets new standards.” In combination with Syslogic’s embedded systems, customers gain smart and robust hardware for inference and computer vision applications in demanding environments.
Bram Verhoef, Vice President – Customer Engineering & Success at Axelera AI, also sees great potential in the partnership. He says: “By integrating our Metis M.2 modules into Syslogic’s embedded computers, Axelera technology can be deployed even in environments with particularly challenging operating conditions.”
Thanks to their M.2 form factor, Axelera’s AI acceleration modules can be seamlessly integrated into all Syslogic embedded computers based on Intel Core i platforms (Raptor Lake). Equipped with a Metis M.2 module, these systems can be used for applications such as AI-based object and person detection, optical inspection, or predictive maintenance.
Syslogic’s embedded computers are among the most rugged on the market. The company’s Rugged Series meets IP67 and IP69 protection ratings, targeting markets such as construction machinery, special-purpose vehicles, and agricultural technology.
Benjamin Gassler adds: “The compact M.2 form factor of the Metis modules fits perfectly with Syslogic’s modular hardware philosophy and enables easy expansion without complex redesign.”
Both Axelera and Syslogic have already established strong international reputations in the field of edge computing. Through their partnership, the two companies are helping accelerate the continued adoption of edge AI applications.
