Syslogic at Embedded World: touch panels and IPCs for demanding industrial applications

January 12th, 2012

The industrial electronics manufacturer Syslogic is making the trip to Nuremberg and is bringing along its innovations in the areas of industrial computers and touch panel systems.

"We offer the right computer for every industrial application," promises Syslogic in its current marketing campaign. Last fall the company started a product initiative to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Just in time for the most important trade show in this industrial sector, Embedded World in Nuremberg, Syslogic is backing up its claim with a brand new touch panel series plus a line of rugged PCs and is thus proving true to its word.

Besides these introductions, other recent innovations from the firm will also be on display. Among them are its proven IPC product lines such as the ML Series, which is universally applicable due to its wide range of freely combinable interfaces, and which thanks to the exclusive use of industrial-grade components is well suited for operation in harsh environments.

Syslogic expands its touch panels with the new PCT line

With its brand-new PCT (Projected Capacitive Touch) Series, Syslogic is expanding its range of operating and visualization solutions. PCT technology combines the intuitive operation of conventional resistive touch screens with the high demands that industry places on robustness and durability. The PCT Series stands out due to its wear-free, scratchproof touch screen that features a flat front face without any edges that could collect dirt. This makes these projected capacitive touch panels from Syslogic quite interesting for the food-processing industry, and not least because the standard aluminum housing is optionally available in stainless steel and thus meets the highest standards for hygiene.

Guaranteed flexibility thanks to a modular platform

The attractively designed touch panels have diagonal screen sizes from 10 to 17 inches along with provisions for integration into systems or outboard mounting using a Vesa bracket. Besides serial ports, they feature a wide range of other interconnect possibilities including USB, Ethernet, CAN and field bus interfaces. As is usual for Syslogic products, the PCT series is based on a modular platform. Accordingly, expanded functionality such as function keys or additional operating elements can be implemented.

Besides the PCT line, Syslogic continues to offer proven resistive touch and infrared technologies. Raphael Binder, Product Manager at Syslogic, is convinced the company can further expand its market share with this complete product portfolio of touch screen solutions. "There’s hardly any other manufacturer who can offer infrared touch panels as well as resistive and projective capacitive touch screen solutions. Thanks to our comprehensive expertise, we can offer the right touch screen solution for virtually any industrial application."

Also available as an open frame solution

As part of its Touch Panel Series, the company will also be presenting a special highlight in Nuremberg: an open frame version of its projective capacitive touch PCs. They feature all the functionality of the standard version and meet Protection Class IP68, thus making them especially well suited for outdoor applications. Thanks to a sophisticated mechanical design, these units can be installed from the rear to be flush with the front of a system and thus provide protection against vandalism. "The open frame version is particularly well suited for interactive information terminals," explains Binder.

Virtually indestructible: the Syslogic RPC Compact 71

Not only can the touch panels from this high-tech company handle the toughest jobs, its industrial computers also operate reliably in harsh environments. This becomes especially clear with the RPC (Rugged PC) Compact 71 Series, which is setting benchmarks in terms of performance and stability. The most obvious feature of this new development is a hardened, anodized aluminum housing that makes the computer virtually indestructible. The housing is resistant to dust, water and chemicals and thus qualifies for Protection Class IP67.

Underneath its housing, this robust Syslogic computer, which requires virtually no maintenance, shows its pioneering innovations. The heart of the RPC is a new, scalable Queens Bay platform from Intel whose performance steps up from 600 MHz to 1.0, 1.3 and even 1.6 GHz. Common to all four versions of the processor is low power consumption coupled with high compute performance. In addition, all RPC Compact 71 computers feature a realtime clock (RTC) powered by a maintenance-free Gold Cap capacitor, and they further stand out with the very latest connector technology that withstands even high levels of shock and vibration.

A proven IPC product portfolio

In addition to these new innovations, Syslogic is showing its existing IPC product portfolio at Embedded World. This ranges from a simple node computer in the Compact MS Series to the Compact ML product family, which like the Rugged Series features the newest Intel Atom processors.

Given this broad product range, Florian Egger, Head of Sales at Syslogic, is very confident. "With these new introductions and our existing products, we cover a very wide spectrum of applications for touch panels and computers for industrial applications. As a systems integrator with our own SMD component-placement capability, we can adapt our units to a customer’s exacting requirements even in low volumes."
